COVID-19

AUSTRALIAN BAR ASSOCIATION

The Australian Bar Association is monitoring COVID-19 developments and all efforts to contain the risk posed by the virus. To protect the health and safety of members of the association, we will continually update the following list of resources.

Summary of tax issues associated with COVID-19 as they apply to the Bar

PwC Australia has provided the Australian Bar Association with a high-level summary of the tax issues associated with the spread of COVID-19 as they may apply to barristers and includes tax support measures and administrative relief available to barristers. The advice is general in nature and we draw your attention to the disclaimers contained in the summary. Each ABA member must take into account their own circumstances and seek their own specific advice as required. The summary can be found here.

Through a communication to the Victorian Bar Association the Tax Department has confirmed that ‘for the purposes of the JobKeeper scheme…[members] … are able to calculate current and projected GST turnover on either an accruals or cash basis (as long as both current and projected GST turnover are calculated using the same method)’.
