The Australian Capital Territory Bar Association

The Australian Capital Territory Bar Association was established in 1964 as the professional body that regulates barristers in the Australian Capital Territory. It represents the interests of members who practise at the private bar and works towards maintaining a strong and independent bar in the ACT, in the interest of the Canberra community.

The Bar Association of Queensland

The Bar Association of Queensland was established in 1903 as the professional body representing the interests of members of the Bar practising in Queensland. Whilst the scope and functions of the Association have broadened since its establishment, its primary goals of promoting the rule of law and maintaining the high ethical standards of the Bar remain in place.

The New South Wales Bar Association

The New South Wales Bar Association was first formed in 1896 and incorporated in 1936. Its aims are to:

• Promote the public good in relation to legal matters viewed in the broadest context
  
• Promote collegiality and mutual assistance amongst its members
  
• Represent the interests of its members to government, the media and the community
  
• Promote fair and honourable practice among barristers
  
• Maintain and impose standards of professional conduct and participate in the discipline of members when required
  

The Northern Territory Bar Association

The Northern Territory Bar Association (NTBA) is the association for those lawyers who practise exclusively as barristers in the Northern Territory. The main objective of the NTBA is to ensure that there is a strong and independent Bar in the Northern Territory.

The South Australian Bar Association

The South Australian Bar Association is an association of independent barristers based in South Australia providing legal representation and assistance to the community.

The Tasmanian Bar

The Tasmanian Bar is an independent referral bar. It is a constituent member of the Australian Bar Association formally admitted as a constituent member of that body on 18 August 1996.

The Victorian Bar Association

The Victorian Bar is a private, voluntary, self-funded, non-profit professional association of barristers who practise in Victoria. The work of the barrister is built on the proud tradition of providing strong and independent legal representation and advice without fear or favour to all in the community.

The Western Australian Bar Association

The Western Australian Bar Association (WABA) was established in October 1963 as a voluntary professional association of independent barristers. The WABA is committed to promoting the highest standards of competence and ethical practice in the provision of independent advocacy and advice services.
